The collection, which engineer Josip Medur (1918-2003), a passionate lover of the Kvarner undersea world and diving, donated to the Maritime and History Museum of Croatian Littoral Rijeka in 2008, has prompted us to prepare the exhibition Under the Sea of Kvarner during the 27th Spearfishing World Championship in Mali Lošinj in 2010.
The visitors of the exhibition have the opportunity to learn more about the undersea world through myths, the history of scuba diving and its equipment as well as the role of sport scuba divers in the research of the undersea world.
As diving has a long tradition in Croatia, one part of the exhibition is dedicated to its development through history.
In the section of the exhibition dedicated to spearfishing, the development of fishing tools, the manufacture of diving equipment in Croatia and the beginnings of the first Croatian and world competitions in spearfishing are presented.
Many lovers of diving have been prompted to record the beauty of the undersea world in photographs or on film. In this exhibition can be seen the first camera case for underwater recording, as well as old recordings and films from competitions in spearfishing recorded with the exhibited cameras.
